When you spend your days holding everything together, it gets hard to hear yourself think. Outdoor Coaching gives you somewhere to set it down for a while, and it lets nature do some of the work alongside us. We use what is around us to guide the conversation. A bridge becomes the crossing you are weighing up. Still water reflects something back that you hadn't quite let yourself see. We slow down enough to notice the birds in the trees, the way they call to one another, and how much can be said without forcing it.
The seasons have a way of mirroring where you are, too. Winter, so long associated with hibernating, invites you to turn inward and rest rather than push. Spring carries the first signs of new growth, the quiet rebirth of something in you that had gone quiet. And the bulbs you plant now, the small ideas you are only just letting yourself have, are the ones that flower later, in summer or autumn. Out here, with space and movement and time, things become clearer, the weight feels lighter, and you start to hear yourself again. That is what Outdoor Coaching is for.
This is not a stroll with a chat, and nature is not just a pleasant backdrop. It is full coaching, outdoors, with nature as a co-facilitator and an active part of the conversation. Some of the best thinking happens when you're moving, breathing and away from four walls. As we walk, I listen, ask the questions that matter and gently challenge what needs challenging, and with each step the noise settles and what actually matters starts to come through.
Outdoor Coaching is for women in midlife who feel stretched, overloaded or quietly disconnected, and who want support that feels human rather than clinical. Perhaps you feel stuck but can't find the space to work out why, or you're always busy yet rarely have time to pause and process. Perhaps you're navigating a career decision, a life transition, or a restlessness you can't quite name. If screens and meeting rooms leave you drained, and you already sense that being outside helps you think, this is for you. You don't need to arrive with answers. You only need to be ready to step outside and look.
We begin with a free 30-minute consultation online, so we can meet, talk through where you are, and feel out whether this is right for you. From there, sessions take place in nature, in a local park, woodland trail or open space in and around Bath, and run up to 90 minutes. We walk side by side, you talk freely, and I coach, in a relaxed and judgement-free space. You can come for a single session when you need to think something through, or work together over a block of sessions when you want more depth and momentum. We set the pace together, to suit your life.n online consultation call before we begin to understand where you are and what you most need.
Movement fuels clarity. Walking helps you process thoughts, ease stress and open up ways of thinking that sitting still rarely reaches. Being outdoors grounds you, bringing calm, perspective and a sense of possibility that four walls don't often offer. And side by side, without the intensity of eye contact across a desk, something shifts. The conversation flows more honestly, and things get said that might otherwise stay unsaid.
I'm Rae, a career coach for women in midlife and the founder of Coaching Women to Shine, an accredited Senior Practitioner with EMCC Global, Emotions Coach and Neurodivergent Inclusive Coach.
Outdoor Coaching began at a time when a global pandemic forced us all to keep our distance. My work carried on outside because it had to, and both my clients and I noticed the shift. The conversation changed, and so did the impact on wellbeing, clarity and confidence. It's become my favourite coaching experience, and my clients too.
Walking helps me think, process and find clarity I can't always reach at a desk, and it was being outdoors that helped me most when I was at my own crossroads. Mine crept up after years of pushing through, when perimenopause, the ADHD I was beginning to recognise in myself, and work that no longer fulfilled me all arrived at once, under that familiar hum of never quite being enough. Leaving a 25 year career in the NHS gave me the space to see what I actually needed. I put my wellbeing first, and I started making different choices about the work I do.
I'm in my 40s, a single parent to two teenage boys, navigating midlife with plenty of imperfect messiness of my own. I know what it feels like to carry a lot and need somewhere to set it down for a while. That's what these sessions are for. (Jessie, my spaniel, often comes along. Dogs are optional.)
Whatever is on your mind. Many women come with a specific intention, a decision they can't make, or a feeling that needs to change. Others arrive with no agenda at all, just with a sense of restlessness they want to explore. All of it is welcome. We will find your focus together.
Most of my clients prefer to meet monthly, typically working together for 3-6 months. If you would like to meet more regularly we can disucss this in the consultation call.
That's perfectly okay. Part of the process involves exploring your values, strengths, and what truly matters to you now. You don't need to arrive with clarity, that's what we are here to find together.
Yes, we can discuss this on the consultation call. If life is particularly full and online takes some of the pressure off, we can adjust accordingly. Flexibility is built in.
